'(29 Dec 2015) GLAM AND AWKWARD COLLIDE ON 2015 CATWALKS The most glamorous fashion shows of 2015 included a sensual, sexy collection shown in Paris from one of Beyonce\'s favourite designers: Alexandre Vauthier. The forty-four-year-old craftsman started his own label six years ago, and immediately attracted attention from clothes horses like Rihanna. Vauthier has been given the official haute couture appellation, putting him in the ranks of the fashion elite. The gowns quickly moved from the catwalk to the red carpet at the Grammys and the Oscars. Elie Saab continued capturing the imagination of A-lister stylists with his Spring-Summer 2015 Couture collection shown in Paris. Transforming the Chaillot theatre into an olive tree garden, the Lebanese designer delivered red-carpet-ready shimmering gowns in an ode to his hometown. An Oscar season favourite, Saab created a dream-like atmosphere that brought to life Beirut\'s glorious days. Embroidered sparkling dresses in powder beige, powder pink and powder green succeeded in transporting fashionistas to this Lebanese Golden Era. The use of feathers were also a highlight of the collection. In the grand tradition of impossible shoes or impossibly slippery catwalks, a few shows stood out during the year. The Lisbon design duo Storytailors showed a collection based on an alluring image of winter - a comforting fireplace where conversations are shared and stories are told through generations. But the slippery catwalk sent a few of their models off their balance. Julien Macdonald\'s Spring/Summer 2016 collection in London - glamorous and shimmery as it was, made use of hard-to-walk-in shoes. With high heels a plenty some struggled to maintain their balance and in one case a model had to be helped back to the dressing area by a fellow model. Givenchy\'s star-studded show in Manhattan in September saw a more high profile tumble. Supermodel Candice Swanepoel took a dive and was helped back up by front row members. Riccardo Tisci, the French fashion house\'s creative director, worked with performance artist Marina Abramovic on the Waterworld-esque set of walls made of recycled metal and wooden shards, seating his huge crowd on stacked wooden pallets and benches as models walked in looks of mostly black and white.
