'5 Minute Men\'s Fashion Shoot - Natural Light | Inside Fashion & Beauty Photography w/ Lindsay Adler'

'Have you ever walked past a location a million times and never noticed it until suddenly, the light is amazing! That’s what happened for this 5-minute men’s fashion shoot. Striking images are a combination of lighting, composition, pose, and expression all coming together in a single frame, and that’s what I aimed to do here! It was later in the day as the sun was dropping behind the tall buildings of NYC, but I saw beautiful rich light hitting graphic columns. I only had a couple of minutes to work before completely losing the light, so we had to act fast! Lens choice: I chose my Canon RF 24-70mm 2.8 to give me a range of focal lengths to create different compositions quickly. Some images were at 70mm for closer shots of my subject or to compress him against the columns. Other shots were at 24mm to exaggerate the scene for dramatic effect. To make the best use of my time, I took this approach: (1) Find the Light Here I was literally chasing the light! It was moving quickly as well as (sometimes) hiding behind clouds. (2) Find the Composition I’d analyze good pockets of light and then move around the scene looking for clean composition. The columns gave me strong elements to work with, and when light and environment came together it created really dramatic elements. (3) Adjust the Pose Once I had the light and location, it was time to introduce my subject. I tried to position my subject within the scene to improve the composition. He could be a composition anchor to balance out the composition, or used as another element of contrast (as I played with light and shadow). Mirrorless Camera: Shooting a mirrorless camera is extremely helpful when you only have a few minutes to work. The electronic viewfinder allowed me to quickly adapt to the changes in lighting since I could see the changing exposure/light in the scene using exposure simulation. Furthermore, I intended for these shots to be in black and white in order to emphasize the graphic elements of the scene. For this reason, I changed my picture style to Monochromatic (black and white) which allowed me to more clearly envision my composition and end results. Although we only had about 5 minutes of shooting time, we made the most of the scene!
