'The fashion industry is one of the most criticized industries by environmentalists. It creates up to 10% of the world’s carbon emissions, drying up precious water sources, and polluting rivers with chemical dyes. With “green” activists in the fashion industry leading the way, fashion designers are learning how to reduce waste and produce clothing with more focus on a clean supply chain and fair labor practices. In our Mingle Mastermind Session, we talked to fashion professionals who believe that with little effort by everyone, big changes can be made. Meet Our Special Panelists: Almarina Bianchi: Almarina is passionate about sustainable practices. She has over 30 years in the apparel industry with broad experience with cross-functional teams globally, she focuses on rethinking product and materials using her strong experience in product development, global sourcing and product integrity. Almarina currently uses her global business experience to guide organizations to define sustainability and incorporate sustainable initiatives into the day-to-day business operations. https://rb.gy/nqwrdg Heather MacKenzie-Chaplet: Heather MacKenzie-Chaplet draws on both her experience in furnishing design and theater creation. Her research brought her to the Burkina region to demonstrate the possibility of living and earning a living in harmony with nature. In 2010, she produced the first prototypes with the same weavers with whom she currently works. Her goal to demonstrate a viable alternative to abusive practices in the clothing industry is now a reality! https://fashionmingle.net/network/users/view/Xoomba Angelique Terrelonge: Lead Instructor of Custom Collaborative.
