'Learn how to sew a 1920s inspired flapper costume from start to finish in this detailed step by step sewing tutorial! It’s a pretty easy costume to make despite the fact that it looks so fancy, so you’ll impress all your friends by telling them you made the Halloween costume from scratch! The shape is easy to cut (you use a tank top as a guide!), and I show you exactly how to put the fringe and trim on to create a beautiful flapper dress; plus you’ll learn how to make an easy flapper headpiece with feathers and rhinestone crystal trim! This would be a great costume for any 1920s theme party, Great Gatsby party, Halloween party, or even part of a Bonnie & Clyde couples costume! Accessorize the outfit with curly hair, red lipstick, dark smoky eyes, black or fishnet tights, and a vintage beaded bag and a flask – because you have to pay homage to the Prohibition era – and you’re ready to head to the speakeasy… or Halloween party! I had so much fun making this and filming and editing it, so I really hope y’all enjoy this video! :) It’s a fun no pattern needed Halloween costume idea for 2018! Don’t forget to stay to the end for bloopers! :) SUPPLIES NEEDED: -FABRIC: At least 1 yard of a fancy special occasion fabric that can stretch – I found several stretch sequin fabrics at JoAnn Fabrics. If, like me, you’ve never sewn with sequin fabric, choose one that has really small sequins… it’s very easy to sew! -TRIM: Decorative trim to use for the straps & headpiece (I used 1 ¾ of a yard, but measure on yourself how large you need dress straps & a headband to be, then add several inches extra for seam allowance and to be on the safe side!) -FRINGE: Fringe for the bottom of the dress (I used almost 1 ½ yards, but estimate how much you’ll need by watching the steps of how to cut the dress and measuring based off of your tank top and those steps, then get plenty extra just to be safe!) -FEATHERS: 1/8 of a yard of a feather trim (mine came from Amazon and I have lots since I’m using it for a feather collar on an Evil Queen cosplay, but I also saw several feather trims at JoAnn Fabric) -RHINESTONE TRIM: 1/8 of a yard of rhinestone or crystal trim (mine came from JoAnn Fabrics… I have lots extra because I’m also using it on my cosplay) -TANK TOP: use a well fitting tank top for the template. (I took my dress in some because I’ve lost weight I haven’t adjusted to sewing for yet, so I could’ve used a more fitted tank top as my template) -BASIC SEWING SUPPLIES: sewing machine, ball point needle, regular needle, thread, hand sewing needle, tape measure, pins, scissors, etc. ***** WHAT SUPPLIES DO I USE?
